What should the cities of the future be like?

At the DOST Inclusive Development and Creativity Center, Fakhraddin Verdiyev spoke with trainers, beneficiaries and Könüllü DOST volunteers about the future of cities and the role of architecture in everyday life.

The discussion focused on physical accessibility, universal design and inclusive urban environments. A visit to the Center’s creative and training spaces connected these ideas with its work supporting people from vulnerable social groups.

WUF13: cities, housing and professional exchange

At the 13th World Urban Forum in Baku, Fakhraddin Verdiyev represented Design Bureau at the PMD Group stand during the Urban Expo, presenting the company and exchanging ideas with international architecture and urban development professionals.

Held under the theme “Housing the World: Safe and Resilient Cities and Communities,” the forum brought public institutions, practitioners and the private sector into a shared discussion. The photographs document the WUF13 Professionals Roundtable.

Open spaces as a city’s safety infrastructure

At a conference on state oversight in architecture and urban planning and the role of the prosecutor’s office, Fakhraddin Verdiyev discussed the protection of recreation areas, green spaces and open land designated in master plans.

His presentation examined how blue-green infrastructure can retain stormwater and reduce pressure on drainage systems. The central argument: land left open has an essential function within the city and should not automatically be treated as a reserve for construction.

Our cities: through the eyes of young people

An information session at the “Our Cities: Through the Eyes of Young People” youth camp explored how cities shape daily life, social interaction and people’s understanding of the future.

Fakhraddin Verdiyev discussed human-centered, walkable, green urban environments with young participants, connecting architectural education with questions of quality of life and sustainable development.

Sustainable architecture at AzMIU

A lecture on sustainable architecture explored the evolving role of architects, principles of sustainable design and the use of digital analytical tools in contemporary practice.

Organized on the initiative of Sattar Karimli, the event coincided with the university’s 50th anniversary and created an opportunity to exchange ideas with students and future architects.

Sustainable architecture and the modern home

A masterclass by Fakhraddin Verdiyev at the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan, titled “Dayanıqlı memarlıq, yaxud müasir ev necə olmalıdır?” — “Sustainable architecture, or what should a modern home be like?”

Formation of a sustainable urban environment

Fakhraddin Verdiyev represented the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan at the XII International Scientific and Practical Conference for students, postgraduates and young researchers in architecture.

His presentation examined the optimal structure of cities in the context of sustainable development and population growth. The conference provided a setting for research exchange and international professional dialogue.

Building smart and sustainable cities

Fakhraddin Verdiyev successfully completed the “Building Smart and Sustainable Cities” course in Singapore from 18 to 22 March 2024 under the Singapore Cooperation Programme Training Award.

The course was conducted by the Centre for Liveable Cities and sponsored by Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The certificate records his completion of the programme, while the photographs document the certificate presentation, a site visit and the international group of participants.
